To say
Payton likes playing with squirrels is an understatement. Every time we take
her outside she is so distracted that a moving leaf or blade of grass will make
her run. If there is a squirrel present, she will test the strength of her
leash. On a recent visit to Arlington Heights, where both our families live, we stopped
into Bentley’s Corner Barkery. Payton had a field day smelling all the treats
and as we were about to leave we spotted a plush tree trunk with three
squeaking squirrels attached. It was meant to be a puzzle to teach the dogs to look for hidden items. We bought it and within a week all three
squirrels were pulled off the tree trunk. These squeaking squirrels are the
bane of my existence. They are so loud and little P carries them around the
apartment in her mouth. Unless we chase her and fight her for the squirrels,
she will either bark or squeak the squirrels until we abide. What was meant to be a puzzle ended up being a human-training toy. Play or I squeak the squirrels. It’s adorable, but
after ten minutes I’m always tempted to throw them out. Until next time…P
